The Team Behind Premium Sound Deals

The hi-fi audio world is incredibly loud. Manufacturers bury their actual specifications behind marketing jargon. Retailers inflate original retail prices to make a standard discount look like a massive steal. You end up buying a headphone amp that clips at half volume or a set of bookshelf speakers that sound like they are trapped under a blanket.

We built this site to cut the noise. We are a small team of audio obsessives, bench testers, and data trackers. We do not aggregate press releases. We track real price drops on gear that actually performs.

Real measurements. Verified price drops. Zero snake oil.

Shaun Patrick Stakem, Lead Editor & Deal Strategist

Shaun Patrick Stakem is a distinguished professional and Advanced Certified Scrum Master. That specific credential might sound out of place on an audio gear site until you see exactly how we operate behind the scenes. The consumer audio market thrives on chaos and impulse buying. Shaun applies rigorous agile methodologies to our testing pipeline and deal verification process.

He treats finding the truth about a DAC or an integrated amp like a complex data project. Under his direction, our team tracks price histories across dozens of retailers in two-week sprints. We isolate the signal from the noise. Shaun ensures that when we claim a $300 speaker pair is a genuine bargain, we have the historical pricing data and the bench tests to back it up.

The Audio Bench & Deal Tracking Team

Shaun directs the strategy, but he relies on a highly specialized team to measure the gear and hunt down the hidden supply chain drops. We do not employ generic writers. We hire people who know how to read an impedance curve.

Elias Thorne, Head of Bench Testing

Elias spent six years repairing vintage receivers and blown subwoofers before joining us. He handles the physical reality of our recommendations. When a brand claims their new Class D amplifier pushes 500 watts per channel, Elias puts it on the bench to find out where it actually clips. He hates bloated mid-bass. He tests closed-back headphones specifically for proper isolation and power requirements, ensuring we never recommend a high-impedance can to someone plugging straight into a laptop.

Maya Lin-Vogel, B-Stock & Supply Chain Analyst

Maya refuses to pay retail for anything. She understands the retail audio supply chain better than most store managers. Maya tracks warehouse clearances, open-box drops, and quiet B-stock dumps from major manufacturers. She knows the exact seasonal windows when brands clear out last generation’s AV receivers to make room for new inventory. If a deal makes it to our homepage, Maya has already verified that the seller is an authorized dealer offering a full warranty.

Our Editorial & Deal Verification Standards

Trust in the audio niche is broken. Too many sites recommend products based entirely on affiliate commission rates. We operate under a strict set of editorial constraints. Limitations build credibility.

We do not cover everything.

  • No snake oil. We will never review or recommend $5,000 speaker cables, audiophile ethernet switches, or cable lifters. We focus on speakers, headphones, DACs, and amplifiers where measurable differences exist.
  • No fake MSRPs. We ignore the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. We track the actual street price of a product over six months. A deal is only a deal if it drops below the historical average.
  • Power matching matters. We never recommend a headphone or speaker deal without explicitly stating the power requirements. Buying a $1,000 pair of planar magnetic headphones on sale is a waste of money if you do not have the right amp to drive them.
  • We name the flaws. No piece of audio gear is perfect. If a budget turntable has a flimsy tonearm, we say so. If a highly rated DAC has a clunky interface, you will read about it here.

Connect With The Team

We want to hear about your specific audio friction. If you are struggling to match an amplifier to a difficult pair of tower speakers, or if you spot a warehouse deal that looks too good to be true, reach out.

Send your questions or deal tips to our editorial desk. Shaun or Elias reviews every submission. We typically respond within 48 hours. We cannot design your entire home theater layout from scratch, but we can definitely tell you if that open-box receiver is worth your money.
